Short hike from Meridian Trailhead

Due to various issues, not least the heat, we can only do a short hike today. Also due to previous commitments we can start only later in the day which of course makes it only hotter when we get at the trailhead. However as a bonus there is an estate sale right at the trailhead and we explore what is available for a while before starting on the trail

There are quite a few trails starting here and finding something acceptable was a challenge. In the end we decide to follow a trail that goes to a first caches we haven’t find, geocaching to the rescue basically.

The chosen trail is the Gold Link trail but it starts a bit further into the park which allows us to find a new info table showing how the mountains were formed. Quite informative and interesting.

The caches along the trail range from normal ones to a few that are quite distinctive like the devil duck one that we really enjoy.

Another one is placed near a mine pit which was filled in, or so we assume. It doesn’t appear it was successful though as it looks quite small.

When we hit the next cache it is getting quite hot and the trail continues far in the distance with the next cache half a mile away so we decide to call it quits and return to our air conditioned car.

The return trip is faster with no caches to find and soon we reach the safety of our car after a nice hour out into the wilderness. Besides the trailhead the trail was surprisingly devoid of other hikers just as we like it so we decide to return sometime in the future when the weather is better.
