Short Hike in Usery Park

Today is a work day so we do not have time to go outside except during late afternoon after work. So we decide for a short hike in Usery Mountain Regional Park. The reason is because we have a yearly pass so the entrance is free, otherwise it would not have been worth it. We park at the visitor center, which seems closed already, and decide on a short loop to explore the feeders and enjoy a few short trails.

As usual near the visitor center is where most of the activity is. That is due to the feeders and likely because the visitor center scares the predators away, during the day at least.

There are quite a few birds but nothing that special as we have seen last time when there were a few lovebirds at the feeder. Today there are mourning doves, towhees, hummingbirds and a few very active verdins.

The trails here are level and go through some beautiful and we enjoy walking and exploring this beautiful area.

With the sun setting the Usery Mountains and especially the “Scar” are beautifully illuminated. We spend some time just enjoying the views before looping around towards the visitor center.

We stay to see the sunset and it is worthwhile with some otherworldly red colors, it seems like the horizon has caught fire. We watch as the sun falls below the horizon and then pick our car and return home after one hour out in the nature recharging our batteries.
