We wanted for a while to attend a concert in Phoenix and when we saw Madonna coming to town we sprang upon the occasion. That was in January 2023 for July 2023. And then the concert got rescheduled as she got sick and so instead of July 2023 we finally make our way to the arena in March 2024 more than a year after buying the tickets. At least we are able to find, expensive, parking nearby and then it is time to walk to the Footprint Arena.
At least there are no lines as most people are already inside, a mistake as we were already aware from reading the reviews of the tour. The reason is that Madonna likes to arrive late, really late and we have no idea if we have to wait 1 hour or 3 hours as it happened in some cities.
It is a little bit more than an hour which is ok given what happened in other cities and after a short introduction she takes the stage. And soon we are scared that maybe we won’t be able to see her at all as she is quite in the back.
However soon she starts wandering around the podium and we can catch glimpses and even view her directly for longer periods.
As we are talking about Madonna the show veers into more suggestive dancing a few times, nothing too crazy but still interesting to see.
There is a lot of stagecraft going on, with the circles of fire being quite interesting, from a technical standpoint of not burning anyone and the mysterious frame that is raising Madonna high above the audience.
There are also lasers and the obligatory phone light waving and around 12 AM, with Madonna going through almost all of her major hits, the show is over and we have to exit with the masses of people after quite an enjoyable but tiring experience.
