Lydgate Beach Park and Coco Palms ruins

We return at the resort to change and pick up our bathing suits and snorkeling gear as we have one last beach expedition planned for the day.

The beach we are going to is quite close almost walking distance but because we have to cross the river we take the car which is a good idea as it takes us longer to get there than we expected. On the way we pass the ruins of Coco Palms Resort, a formerly famous resort destroyed by a hurricane and mired since then in ownership controversies.

Lydgate Beach Park the major beach closest to our resort is less touristy and has lots of parking. We chose it because it has two rock enclosed ponds that create a safe haven from the open ocean waves, while still allowing the small reef fish to move into the pond through the crevices. It is relatively cold but we decide to snorkel for a while to see if any fish are in the area.

And we do see a few fishes, a lot of Yellowfin Surgeonfish, Blacktail Snappers and an assortment of other fishes. But the water is even colder than we expected so shivering we exit and then return to the hotel to warm ourselves. We continue calling for a taxi but it is very difficult to find a company that comes to the hotel at 5 in the morning. After some time we find one and hope for the best on our last day when we need it. The rest of the evening is spent just enjoying the balcony and relaxing after the tiring swim.
