The first stop for today is something that we read about on a previous visit but weren’t sure if it will live up to the hype. The Catwalk is a National Recreation Trail that enters Whitewater Canyon following the route of a previous plank walkway above a long gone steel pipe. Instead of boards and wood it is supposed to be metal now and we are looking forward to our walk.
The route is quite impressive from the beginning with suspended walkways and bridges almost at every step. We are quite surprised that something like this is maintained so wel so far away from major urban centers.
As the trail enters the narrow canyon we enjoy the cooler temperatures and the great views, it really is a surprising place out in the middle of nowhere.
Towards the end of the trail we find even a small waterfall where people are taking a bath in the shallow pool when we return, quite quaint.
After the maintained “Catwalk trail” ends you can continue for miles but today is not the day as we have a long drive ahead so we return to the car and continue on after this great couple hours diversion.
