Our plan today is to start in the Quadrilatero d’Oro, the fashion district of Milan, but first we have to make our pilgrimage to Milan. It starts with breakfast, shuttle and then train arriving a bit before midday in Milan.
We take the metro for a few stations to Montenapoleone from where we plan to walk to the heart of the fashion district.
The streets are not that busy initially but fill up with people as we approach Via Montenapoleone and then turn on Via Sant’Andrea.
Here are many of the famous brand names from Gucci to Givenchy to Jimmy Choo. We are not that interested in them, just to see the prices which can run into the thousands for a pair of shoes or a handbag.
Next we visit Palazzo Morando, a rare free museum, described in a separate entry. Exiting it we decide to leave to center of the quadrilatero by passing through a more serene area, a former seminary, which now houses mostly upscale shops and restaurants.
We exit at the other end of the seminaryon Corso Venezia and start making our way to our next destination the Indro Montanelli Gardens.
We don’t take a direct route though as we want to pass near Villa Necchi Campiglio and explore this upscale neighborhood in more detail. It is a good choice as soon we pass the most impressive building along the way, Villa Mozart or as we call it Ivy House.
The other buildings are quite impressive too the whole area seems to be Art Nouveau style or something quite similar.
The best of the Art Nouveau buildings is Palazzo Berri-Meregalli, a beautiful building on par with the best Art Nouveau ones we have seen in Riga. And then soon we arrive at Indro Montanelli Gardens, our next goal.
