Today is our last day in the White Mountains and we decide to start with something lower altitude first. Specifically we want to visit the Jacques Marsh Wildlife Area close by first to see if there are any interesting birds. And maybe hike a bit if there is shade. The parking does have some shade but the Wildlife Area proper is in the sun and it is quite hot so we decide to just quickly explore it instead of hiking seriously.
The Wildlife Area protects a lake which is quite large and has a berm running around it. And whenever we climb it the birds fly away so they are always really far away and even then area mostly coots, so quite common.
In fact even when far away the coots decide to fly away but this time it is not because of us but because of a bald eagle circling above us. And with no interesting birds and the heat getting to us we return to the car to drive to higher altitudes to hike a bit before returning to Phoenix.
