Exploring Usery Park from multiple entrances

For a couple of days due to lower temperatures we visit the Usery Park for some short visits exploring multiple entrances. For the first visit we pick again the visitor center for a longer loop hike through the desert. Before starting on the trail we decide to explore the feeders near the visitor center first as there seem to be a lot of birds there.

While there are birds at the feeders there are quite common ones like mourning doves and finches and a few thrashers. And of course Gambel’s Quails on the ground.

And then we start exploring the trails, this area is quite beautiful and we enjoy the great weather. There aren’t that many people out today as we expected and the ones that are are focused near the visitor center taking professional photos and what not. Here we meet only a few bicycles and just a few hikers so it is much more quieter than we expected.

The most interesting bird we see on the trail is a Sage Thrasher. We haven’t seen them in a while and they are here only during migration so it is a nice find.

And then on we go on the level trails looping through towards the campground and then back into the beautiful desert enjoying the great weather and area.

Soon we are back at the visitor center watching the feeders. They are very active mostly with finches and we enjoy them for quite some time before returning home after a nice couple hours in nature.

The next day in the evening we decide to explore via another entrance, a pedestrian one this time. This time we want only to see the sunset and walk for around a half hour, a short exploration of the desert at nightfall.

The sunset is quite beautiful and we really enjoy the beautiful colors in the background before returning back to the car after just a short jaunt in the desert.
