South Mountain Park is again our goal today. With cooler weather hiking in the closest park to our home appeals to us. Today we discovered a cache that promises ruins, the Lost Ranch Ruins to be exact, and on we go. The trail starts easy enough from the trailhead, the only concern is not to get lost on the many side trails that branch out from it.
After about 1.5 miles from the trailhead we discover our goal, the Lost Ranch ruins. The origin of the ruins is lost in time (really) with some interesting theories swirling around, nudist resort, mining camp or more prosaically and likely a CCC camp.
Still who knows, mining is also likely due to the many mining signs nearby. No matter what it was it is worth a visit and we explore the area a bit more before finally returning to the car and then home.
