Today we have only one main objective, hike a levada trail. After the previous day when we were out from early in the morning till late at night we take it easy today leaving only around 10:30 and reaching our first goal of the day at 11:30. This is even though the distance is quite short but the roads are very winding and we pass through unending tunnels and switchbacks before reaching the village on the other side of the island.
Now in Santana we park in a free parking lot and look for the famous traditional houses but try as we might they do not seem that spread out as we expected. And going to the main area without sidewalks on the narrow roads seems to dangerous so back to the car we go.
We then drive to the central area where the city hall is located and also a cluster of traditional houses. And also the tourists, quite a lot of them.
We stop for a short while to take a few photos of the houses but afterwards there is nothing else to do and we still have the levada trail in front of us so it is time to leave to see if we can find the trail and especially some parking nearby.
