The beautiful Kegon Waterfalls

Our next stop after visiting the beautiful temples and shrines is in Nikko National Park, the Kegon Waterfall, one of the top three waterfalls in Japan. The weather as we arrive is cloudy and foggy and we can’t see the views on the drive up the mountain very well. Still we pay for the entrance and hope that it is worth it as it is quite expensive. And then we catch a first glimpse of the waterfall and it is quite beautiful, we are looking forward to exploring the site.

The approach to the viewpoint is really commercial with lots of stands selling foods and a few gift shops. However the waterfall is beautiful and impressive with a length that seems to go on forever.

Luckily the fog didn’t arrive yet here so we can have a full view of the waterfall. There is a also a tower that you can climb down to for a slightly different view of the waterfall and even an elevator that you can use to go down to the base but that costs quite a bit more so we decide to skip it.

We are already hungry as it is past noon so we browse the stands trying to decide on what to eat. It is great that some have photos or even the items shown outside so we have a better idea of the choices available.

After a lot of research we settle on what looks to be a safer choice of food and it is quite good even though we have no idea what it was (probably some fish). And then it is time to continue exploring we have a couple more stops planned today.
