Returning from our successful Tahiti Monarch exploration we are quite hot and ready for our first snorkeling exploration of the trip. Mahana Park, where we parked for the birdwatching trip seems like a great place for snorkeling. There aren’t many people here and the grounds are quite extensive bordering the ocean.

Even more important it has some restrooms to change and a beautiful calm seashore that we can use to enter with quite a few fish beckoning to us even from the shore.

Soon we both enter the water exploring the beautiful underwater world. The water is quite clear and the fish are quite varied with yellow fishes being the brightest by far at least in the beginning.

There are a few spots especially attractive to the fish and we do our best to stay in those spots which is a bit difficult with the current dragging us in different directions. Still it is beautiful and we really enjoy snorkeling here with the shallow water being quite a bonus.

We take our time focusing on fishes that we find especially interesting, we try to learn the common species as fast as we can so we can identify anything special faster.

That doesn’t mean that the common species cannot be special. Especially beautiful is the Lagoon Triggerfish, quite common but also very special to see.

We continue exploring the ocean floor and the many species of fish congregating at specific spots for some reason. We cannot detect anything special but at least we know the spots and return a few times to see if something new appeared.

And then after one more tour of the corals it is time to exit, we still have a lot to explore with the next stop being a famous black sand beach. After lunch of course, we are quite hungry by now.
