After almost two weeks in Romania meeting family and friends it is time to start the solo part of our trip with a flight from Bucharest to Berlin which is our first stop on our tour of Germany. Luckily Ryanair is quite punctual and soon we are on our way after boarding on both sides of the plane of course.
We are happy that we are leaving as there are storms incoming and we still remember the issues we had when leaving Germany towards Romania but luckily soon we are above the clouds and the flight afterwards is quite uneventful.
The flight is only two hours long and it feels shorter as we start descending through the clouds, again, towards the Berlin airport.
From the airport we take a direct train to Ostbahnhof, East Train Station, where we are going to stay for two nights at a nearby hotel. Ostbahnhof is the former central station for Berlin during communist times and as such many trains still stop here including the train to Poland we plan to take the next day for a one day trip to Poznan.
The room is quite small and we barely have time to spread our luggage but we don’t stay enough in the room to actually matter. What we use during the first night however is the downstairs restaurant it is quite welcome to have something available to eat without leaving the hotel.
The food is reasonably ok and we enjoy our first taste of currywurst, a famous meal in Berlin but it doesn’t seem that special to us. And then it is time to sleep before leaving for Poznan the next day and then moving to a more central hotel the following day.
