Leaving Temecula behind we decide for one more stop, Ramona Trailhead, high in the mountains. The reason is that we expect some higher altitude birds here that are not visible in Temecula. But first we have to get there passing through construction zones and avoiding the jumping horses. Which we assume are live initially but in fact are a roadside sculpture.

As we get higher we see a few trees in color, always nice to see some fall colors close to the desert. Unfortunately it also gets darker the higher we get and as we reach the trailhead it starts to rain.

We still get out of the car during a short break in the rain and the trail is quite nice and there are some birds. But the rain starts again and there is thunder in the distance so we decide to retreat to the car and continue to Phoenix.

In fact it seems that the rain was concentrated in the trailhead area, as soon as we leave it stops and as we descend into Palm Springs the clouds start to clear. Unfortunately at this point the only thing we can do is enjoy the views, buy some fast food at Wendy’s and then continue to Phoenix after a fun but quite rainy trip.
