Short exploration of the Trout River Pond Trail

As we were not able to go far on the Tablelands trail due to rain we decide to try our back the Trout River Pond Trail. This is a much longer trail so we want to try only a short stretch but still it will allow us to explore a bit more this section of the park. However it takes a bit to find the trail start as the parking doubles as parking for a local park for children and dogwalking.

However we find the trail which is supposed to be quite difficult but start easy and level enough. There are nice views and we even see a few interesting birds along this stretch.

The trail then enters the forest and this is where it becomes difficult. There are spots with mud that are difficult to go around but at least the bridges are still all there at least on this stretch.

Then the trail starts to go up and down for every creek with mud up and down and we are passing creek after creek after creek. There are no views and as this continues seemingly forever we decide to return back to parking.

However we take a detour to reach the lake or brook, we are not sure, shore. Here we have a few moments of sun and we enjoy just sitting on the shore and enjoying the weather.

Now we return to the small city of Trout River where we are planning to have dinner. This is only if we find parking and it takes a bit to do just that and then we hurry to the restaurant as again it starts to rain.

The restaurant is relatively well known and well reviewed so we are looking forward to the food. The menu is limited but it has what we want, cod tongues and cod fillet, we really are going all in on the cod theme for Newfoundland.

Cod tongues are not actual tongues they are just cod nuggets really and they are really good. In fact both main dishes are really good so we also order an off-menu item, the parfait which is also quite good.

Now full it is time to return back to our AirBnB about an hour drive. Again we have to be really careful as we see a few moose on and near the road. But we see them in time and can take photos and avoid any dangerous high speed encounter. At the AirBnB it is time to pack as tomorrow we are leaving Newfoundland and returning to Phoenix.
