Evening in Wailua

And then it is time to move to our new lodging. It is not as exciting as our old lodging, it looks a lot more like a normal hotel room, the AC doesn’t work but it has a balcony and a kitchenette which is nice. At least a maintenance man repairs the AC so we can cool the room but still it is a bit disappointing after the previous resort. In addition the reception cannot call us a taxi for the last day which is really messed up as that is a minimum you would expect from any resort. They tell us we should call the taxi company and arrange, really annoying.

We are quite hungry at this point so we choose a nearby Korean restaurant and drive there even though we likely could have walked. In fact after ordering we explore the area and discover how to access the area by foot for the next day.

We also explore a couple of public beach accesses along the way, they are surprisingly narrow and long. Walking on one we smell something like rotten fish in the bushes and we look more carefully and see a wedge-tailed shearwater chick. As he isn’t moving and it smells quite badly we assume he is dead but then we get the shock of our lives when he suddenly moves. Quickly we move away to ensure no one notices the chick and continue on.

The beaches in this area however are not that impressive. They are small and very busy already and it doesn’t seem they are good for swimming.

After picking the food we drive back to the hotel to eat on the balcony, it is quite relaxing if we wouldn’t have neighbors below us that smoke (and all the smoke is coming up to us) and like to shout incessantly.

After our lunch/dinner we go to the resort beach for a walk along it during sunset. There are quite a few people out with good reason as the views are spectacular.

It is very nice and relaxing walk along the beach and we walk until it is getting to dark to see when we decide to return to our room.

In the room we take stock of the gifs we bought for the day watch TV and call taxi companies with very little luck before going to sleep as tomorrow we have a relatively long hike ahead of us.
