The District of Columbia is technically not a state, even though it should be, but a federal district under the direct control of the US Congress. It houses Washington, the capital of the United States and is host to the White House and the United States Capitol as well as many other federal buildings, many of which can be visited.
We visited the District a couple of times see the famous Mall, visiting a few of the Smithsonian Museums and even entering the White House lawn and the Capitol. It is a must see destination but in our opinion not really a repeat one, after you seen all the sights there isn’t much left to do.
