Saint Pierre et Miquelon is a country few know exist. It is a self-governing territorial overseas collectivity of France, the last territory that France kept as it lost possesion after possesion to England. It is a small part of European Union in North America, just a few small islands and we really wanted to visit it since we heard about it. It is not easy to visit but you can take a ferry or a plane from Newfoundland and on some days using the ferry you can do a daytrip which is what we plan for.
There are two larger and populated islands, Saint Pierre and Miquelon with the majority of the population on Saint Pierre and this is where the plane and the ferry, for the daytrip at least are landing. There is a historic town, the capital, also called Saint Pierre and then lots of nature with some hiking trails that we explore during our one day visit.
