Exploring Washington DC during a conference

We are invited to a conference in Washington DC and we take the opportunity with both hands, how can we miss an opportunity to stay in the middle of it all and explore? Well one will mostly attend the conference and the other one will explore but still there are breaks where we can meet and explore together.

We spend most of the day exploring the central area with some targeted visits to major attractions. We start near Carnegie Library before passing the Chinatown entrance as we make our way towards the Postal Museum our first stop.

This area is more modern even though it is still full of federal and lobbying buildings as well as a few academic ones.

Soon we arrive to the Union Station before we enter the Postal Museum nearby where we spend an hour exploring the exhibits.

Next we have a work lunch before continuing to the Capitol which we enter and explore for a while.

Next we walk through the surrounding historic districts. We don’t go to far though, it is getting late and we still have lots of buildings to see.

Next we pass the Supreme Court of the US and the Library of Congress, with the Library of Congress getting the nod in the architectural looks competition.

Then we start back towards the hotel passing the Botanical Garden and the National Museum of the American Indian, which we visited previously and therefore skip this time.

Then it is time to see Department of Labor, whose numbers we use quite often and the National Archives that have all the secrets about UFOs and who killed Kennedy, or at least so we are told :).

We end the day with a hearthy dinner, tomorrow is another day of exploration.

Most of the day today is spent exploring the National Mall but first we explore a bit the neighborhood. We pass by the Ford Theater, we plan to visit it the next day but we cannot stop ourselves for taking a peek earlier.

We do not take too many peaks at the FBI headquarters though, that seems quite dangerous. Or maybe passing fast is more suspicious, who knows. And then we arrive at the National Mall that we spend a few hours exploring and is described separately.

Returning we pass the White House and then the City Hall and then it is time to find a place to eat.

We find a restaurant near our hotel which is quite good and full we go back to the hotel to retire for the day, tomorrow we plan to visit both the White House and the Ford Theater.
