Staying on the Arctic Circle

Finally after all the excitement of seeing our first reindeer we get to our cabin via a scenic drive through unending forests while encountering almost no other cars for a few hours. It takes a bit to find which cabin we are staying in as the reception has closed for the night but then we get, really fast due to the mosquitoes, inside.

The cabin looks great with a private sauna however it is very rustic with no bathtowels – luckily we have some small ones with us. Interestingly while the sun does set after midnight, it still never gets really dark as we are on the Arctic Circle in the middle of summer. But we still have to sleep so we eat a late dinner and then go to sleep to recuperate before our full day in Lapland.

We wake up late due to our midnight arrival the previous day and after breakfast we take a tour of the complex seeing the boat harbor and discovering that our cabin has also a 2nd floor with additional sleeping space.

While exploring we have a nice reindeer sighting as two reindeer with impressive antlers are ambling through the complex. We go outside and snap some photos with them crossing the Arctic Circle – or at least the point marked as the Arctic Circle inside the complex.

It is a nice complex but we want to hike through nature so on we go to a trailhead next to the complex for a short hike starting a long day of exploring.
