We choose a lunch place in middle of Williams that serves hearthy fare and happily also has seating available. It is much better in fact than the last time we were in Williams with most restaurants being less busy. Here we order steak and also roast beef with mashed potatoes which is actually quite good.
However they are famous for their pies and we order one and really it is quite good. And there is a large selection of pies to choose from, from now on every time we will come here we have to buy a different one.
Next we explore Williams a bit, there is a new museum, the Poozeum. It explores exactly what the name is saying but it is closed today unfortunately, maybe next time.
There is the oldest hotel in Arizona and then a beautiful mural but soon it is time to move on to the nearby Kaibab Lake. We want to explore for a bit to see if there are any interesting birds.
There are a lot of parking spots near the lake and already here we find something interesting, there are lots of crows. Usually we see ravens everywhere so crows are a rarity really in Arizona.
We do not have time for a full loop around the lake so we decide to go only about one third and then return the same way. There are some nice views from the beginning and a few Abert’s squirrels looking for food everywhere.
On the other side of the lake we find an abandoned cabin, more like a shelter really. But the bonus is nearby a shed skin from a gopher snake, always cool to find!
And then it is time to return back to the car as we still want to make it in time to the last stop of the day where we hope to see some petroglyphs.
