The AirBnB we have chosen is a cabin on two levels with the kitchen and dining room downstairs and the living room, bathroom and bedroom upstairs. It is a much smaller house than we expected but we have not reserved it for its size. We reserved it because it is promising alpacas that you can visit with and touch.
The upstairs area is no shoes and the carpet is quite nice actually while in the bathroom the floor is heated. However the heating inside otherwise is quite weird with the thermostat not controlling anything really.
Outside we can park right in front of the house which sits in front of the factory and next to the owner’s home. The factory, previously for alpaca wool processing is now wood cutting only as we learn during the visit.
However the alpaca herd is still here as we soon learn and it has even grown by two “mistake” babies recently. Given the cold they get a sweater overnight but as we visit them they are freed for the day.
We have a lot of fun touching the alpacas and the friendly dog as the owners explain how the herd came to be and how they are hoping to wind it down in the next years.
And then it is time for a late breakfast, we find a good mexican themed restaurant and in we go, at least there are enough tables empty so we get fast service.
The food is really good and full we are ready for the day, it is time to explore railways and ranching remains in Northern Arizona.
