Camping and visiting around Greens Peak

The camping spot that we have chosen is near the forest road however no one is driving on it during the night which is great. As a bonus it is also hidden behind a few pines and it has a nice side closed forest road starting from it that we decide to explore in the morning.

In fact the road is in good shape but closed strategically in a few places, so strategically that we think that it was closed intentionally. This is all right with us as otherwise we would not have been able to camp in the area.

We climb up and place a cache while wondering at the many scary signs in the forest. There are trees that seem to have been clawed at and skeletons throughout the forest, quite a scary place really.

We then drive towards Greens Peak which is relatively nearby. On the way we admire a herd of cows that enjoy a waterhole by both drinking and taking a bath in it. There are quite a few calves in the herd, it seem to be quite successful.

Then it is time to climb up Greens Peak. It is only about a one mile drive but up and up on a narrow road and a bit scary if you encounter someone from the other direction. At the top are the usual array of antennas and a good parking spot so we can explore the top for a while.

There are some great views that we enjoy and we also find the nearby cache before deciding to descend as the storms seem to be coming in and we are a bit exposed.

As we continue towards the Carnero Lake we find a few turkey vultures on the ground and with a bit of scanning we find the gruesome reason why they are on the ground and not in the air.

Last major stop is Carnero lake with a few caches and some birds, mallards and coots mostly.

Initially we assume the lake is mostly dry but it depends where you access it, near the boat launch there is enough water really. And then it is time to return home stopping a few times along the way to find caches and enjoy the great views on the Rim while avoiding the rain following us.
