Wading through the Paria Box

For some time we wanted to explore the Paria Box as it seems quite an exciting place to visit but the water was too cold on a previous visit to do a serious exploration. Today we try again and we are better prepared but you cannot be prepared for the free range cattle that are having fun between us and the Box. We do our best to avoid them and luckily they do the same and soon we are on the trail heading into the Box.

The Paria Box is a small but deep canyon created by the Paria River as it crosses through the Cockscomb. It is scenic enough from dry land but to get the full experience you have to enter the river and pass through it. The water is not deep but it is cold and that stopped us last time but today we plan to really do it.

It is a cold but nice passage through the small canyon and arriving on the other side it is time to dry out and absorb the heat for a while before returning back to the car. There are some great views and even some more modern ruins, a movieset, if you search carefully.

Of course there is cattle also on this side and of course we meet them in the least convenient point but we make do before noticing that the sun is setting. It is time then to return back through the cold river to our car, much faster this time as we cannot depend on the sun to warm us up afterwards.

On the other side we enjoy the views of the Paria River and decide with enough sunlight left to make one more stop nearby to see some interesting rock formations.
