After about two hours of driving we are finally at the point of leaving the Burin Peninsula but first we have one more stop planned, the Vernons Antique Car Museum. This one is clear that it is open as there are a few cars parked outside and after paying the entrance fee in we go and we have quite a surprise when seeing how many cars are collected here, it will take a bit to explore everything.
There are many directions to go and we decide to start with the smaller section and then continue into the larger hall. It is a good choice as here are the older and more valuable cars.
Soon we discover that you can actually walk besides the cars and explore them from all directions, really surprising compared to other museums. And the cars are having quite a few interesting touches like picnic baskets in the back, or tools or clothes, they look ready to leave.
Some cars, especially originally, had weird ways to open the trunk or access the motor. However sometimes it is more good reason if the car is a convertible for example. We also like the rocket like taillights, those were quite imaginative really.
Now we move in the main hall here there are rows of cars, some are the same but different generations and some are unique for us and interesting. There is also a raised area that we call the Elvis area as it is dedicated to the King.
Here is also the oldest car an old Ford Model T, while old it is probably not the most valuable car given the number of limited edition models. There is also a Land Rover here, something that we really enjoy seeing in a museum.
And on and on we go exploring car after car. We really like the one that has a tray attached to eat, likely this is how they were eating at fast food restaurants in the 60s and 70s. No idea why they stopped that as it would be quite convenient.
Another interesting thing is that the luxury versions of the car had record players inside, we had no idea before that this was ever attempted. Wonder how they weren’t skipping over bumps? So record players and then CDs and then MP3 players is the progression with radio being the only constant.
We spend at least one hour exploring the museum and every car and then it is time to leave. It is getting late and we still have a couple more stops planned, it really is a full day today.
