On the way we pass the Santa Clara Convent which has a potentially interesting museum inside of Sacred Art. Because our relative likes religious objects we decide to visit it and in we go paying the small entrance fee. The most famous object held here is the ‘Virgen abridera’, a small ivory carving from the late 13th century and almost certainly a donation from the Queen of Castile and Leon, Doña Violante, founder of the Convent and wife of Alfonso X the Wise. It is held right next to the entrance and we take our time exploring this small exhibit hall.
Next is the outdoor kitchen area, there are still quite a few utensils and to our surprise a quite modern bathroom, nice for such a small museum.
This interior courtyard is quite well renovated with some nice views of the convent corner, we assume those were the accomodations of the nuns.
The museum actually continues to the second floor with a row of rooms all full of paintings, icons and other religious paraphernalia.
We spend some time exploring the rooms with our relative being especially enamored of some of the more detailed works with us being more interested in the treasure chests. And then it is time to go back outside and continue our exploration of Santa Cruz de Tenerife after a cool respite from the heat outside.
