Today it is supposed to be a rainy day so we decide to try something local especially given that our relatives are leaving in the evening. Fontmerle Marsh is really close by and has a level loop around it that we hope our relatives will like. Getting there is not easy as our GPS routes us through a closed road but we are able to reach the other end which is the official entrance. Parking is easy enough and soon we are on the trail searching for views of the marsh.
There is an observation tower nearby and we climb with great hope to a view over….nothing really?! It is a marsh but it is mostly dried out or taken over with no birds really.
We continue along the perimeter on a nice trail when it starts to rain, we hide under a tree and hope for it to end and luckily the worst is over after a few minutes.
On the other side of the marsh is a much better view with a lake and a few mallards as well as a magpie watching us carefully.
And then it is back to the car and time to celebrate at our reunion at a nearby Michelin restaurant, Le Bistrot des Anges. Parking is full and we drive quite a bit around it before we find a spot while the rain is picking up again. Inside there are enough tables and we settle while eyeing the menu, what should we get and will it really be as good as advertised?
We get appetizers, main and dessert from the dessert cart and all of them are outstanding. We really didn’t expect much but we can see why it has gotten a Michelin star, both us and our relatives were quite impressed. And then it is back outside to the car to go towards our last destination, Vallauris, due to a request from our relatives to see something Picasso related.
