Every year we meet with our family in a different country and this year we decide to split between France with one part of our family and Spain with the other part. However we first have to arrive in Nice a long overseas flight so we are happy that suddenly there is a lounge in the Phoenix airport that we can use before leaving for New York. Because of course there is no food service on the flight, as usual.
After eating our fill it is time to explore the art exhibits, we especially like the cactus needle art with a very appropriate sentence written out.
We have very limited time in Newark or at least that is what we think but then the airplane is delayed so we have more time unfortunately to explore the airport before our flight.
We have taken an upgrade for this flight, Premium Economy, which gives us some good foot space and an upgrade from the usual food service. It even has some metal looking cutlery, nice.
And then we arrive in Nice and we have made up some time so all is good, right? Nope we stand and stand on the tarmac and then the pilot announces that when landing the tower has seen smoke from one of the wheels so we cannot go to the terminal. And then the firefighters come and we are escorted to a place on the tarmac where we are disembarked and led via buses to the terminal. And of course it is a different terminal than we were supposed to arrive in, terminal 1 vs terminal 2.
And now we have to walk from one terminal to the other because the car rental is in terminal 2. There is a footpath but it not clear how long it will take and it is a long time really as we weave through the airport grounds carrying our heavy bags.
And then we finally arrive at terminal 2 and find the car rental center where a huge line is formed in front of our rental company. We stay in line for about one hour before we finally get to the front desk and get our car and are ready for our France adventure.
