Back to Delhi Metro and the Ambience Mall

Today it is time to leave Agra to return towards Delhi where we plan to spend our last night in India relatively close to the airport. So we eat our last homemade Indian breakfast, say goodbye to the Homestay and on we go towards Delhi.

Our driver seems to be in a hurry so we decide not to ask him to take the more roundabout route close to some holy sites but the faster high speed highway. In the end this is not good news for him as he hits a dog along the way causing the front of the car to be dented and us to stop multiple times so he can fix the car so we can get to our hotel.

We are happy when we see Delhi as now we can at least get a replacement car if so needed. Luckily none is needed even though we pass through the whole city from the east side to the west side.

We arrive right at check in time however our room is not ready, not what we expected from a five star hotel. Well we booked it with points but we wanted to splurge for our last night and not wait in the lobby on a parade of people asking if we have been helped already. Finally someone decides to upgrade us to a higher floor with a nice view of the highway and we can relax for a bit before going out to the nearby mall.

The room at least is really nice and we have a lot of fun with the bathroom which is transparent to the bedroom. Well you can draw shades but we find that out only after pressing many many buttons as it seems every single light is turned on by a switch or button separate from any neighboring light. And then someone is at the door and we receive a birthday cake, not sure who offered it but it is quite welcome.

The Ambience Mall is right next door which is the reason we booked at this hotel so we don’t need the driver for the rest of the day. The Mall is very popular and nicely decorated for Valentine’s Day, we assume and we start exploring it after passing through security, all malls here have heavy security measures.

As we explore we soon discovered that most brand stores are the same ones we could find in the USA or Europe, nothing really that special in most cases.

In the end we decide on a restaurant to eat, a Punjab eatery which promises less spicy food. Less spicy food here still means really spicy so we are happy that at least the dessert is not too spicy. And then we return to the hotel and spend the rest of the day relaxing and preparing our luggage for next day, the last day in Delhi.
