The ostrich festival is a major attraction for the Phoenix area but we never made it, until today that is. We decide to see what the buzz is about and arrive in time before the races which is one of the supposed highlights. But even so there is no way to see them clearly as the stands are filled and all viewing areas are full and even more people are arriving all the time.
We can barely see the race and we can only see the ostriches and the carts when they pass in a very narrow viewing angle. Quite annoying that they take the full price but then there is no option to actually view the race.
After the race at least we can see the ostriches who really do not seem to care that much that they were just part of the race or even be tired.
It is now time to investigate further the snack area and the petting zone. Everywhere it is quite full and it is difficult to make your way towards any location.
You can ride on camels and ponies and we watch other people doing it as the line is quite long otherwise.
There are also some exhibits with cattle and sheep especially weirder breeds like the interesting unicorn sheep.
We avoid the giant pig not as much because we don’t want to see it but because of the lines. And it costs extra and we are not sure if it is worth it.
There is also a full fairground that we avoid or more exactly are not able to enter due to the crowds. At least we are able to buy a funnel cake and some fries for a good but unhealthy food. And then it is time to return home after a bit of a disappointing visit to the ostrich festival.
