Today is our last full day in Kauai and we are starting it with a walk on the grounds as we are planning to explore the area close to the resort first given that rain is forecast everywhere.
We say goodbyes to our resident gecko given that it is unclear if we are going to see it again and then continue towards the nearby mall.
After exploring the shops for some time we decide to try for an early lunch at a Chinese/Thai place that we saw in the mall.
The food is quite good and given that the rain hasn’t started yet we decide to try to explore the road up to the nearby Arboretum by car.
First stop is at Poliahu Park where an entire army of chickens is waiting for us, they are coming from everywhere including the trash cans, it is a bit intimidating.
While the chickens take over our car we take a look at the nice view over the Wailua River from the overlook before exploring the nearby heiau.
Poliahu Heiau is one of the largest heiau (place of worship) on Kauai and looks quite impressive. However it cannot be approached due to some weird “no tresspassing” signs that we have noticed across the island, we are not sure if they are official or not but decide not to find out.
Just a few hundred meters away by car is our next stop, Opaeka’a Falls. When we arrive it is starting to drizzle so we make a quick run to take some photos, see the views and then return to the car.
