Next is one of the major attractions in Ireland, the Cliffs of Moher. They are a long stretch of vertical cliffs home to seabirds and allowing some great views. However when we visit the birds have already left and the weather is quite moody with fog and rain interspersed with sunnier moments.
We walk to O’Brien Tower, marking the highest point of the cliffs. While looking medieval it was actually built in 1835 as an observation tower for the English tourists that visited the site at the time.
The views are actually great and with the flowers in the foreground they look quite idyllic.
The trail continues on past a sign that says in multiple languages that you should not go further. It is probably the most ignored sign we have ever seen, with good reason likely as there isn’t anything remotely dangerous post it as far as we can see. And we still obey it….guess we are not the risk takers we thought we are.
After a look at the only (wooden) puffins we see on this tour we are ready to continue on through the rain which is picking up again. Of course two cows are watching us intently, are these the same two cows that are following us from the start of our tour?
