Last stop of the day is at Casamero Pueblo, a relatively secluded Indian ruin on BLM land. It is free to enter which is a nice bonus and even so there is no one around when we arrive at the parking lot. We are here late in the day driving about one hour from Morro NM, but there is enough time to explore the ruin that we can see a short distance away.
It is a nice and easy trail to the ruin about a quarter of the mile and level. There are even some bonus flowers along the way and the weather is quite nice also.
Soon we are at the ruin and we start exploring it. It is quite small but interesting to see the different rooms and the brickwork which supposedly is from the ancient Chaco civilization.
There is a main street running through the pueblo on a north/south axis and a kiva, something quite expected in Chaco cities.
Some of the rooms are quite clear and some are storage rooms given that there is no direct exit to the outside. We explore in all directions and along all sides and then we continue on to a nearby cache.
The cache is an easy find near a ruined cabin and we also have a bonus of a mountain bluebird nearby who watches us curiously as we slowly make our way back to the ruins.
The sunset here is quite beautiful and we watch as the sun slowly disappears behind the mountains and then make our way towards the car. The return trip to Gallup is longer than we expected due to congestion on the interstate but we make it back and then it is time to relax and then go to sleep as we have a trip to Chaco Canyon planned the next day.
