On this last day we plan to visit the National Museum which is on the other end of the Wenceslas Square, one of the major squares in Prague. We are arriving on one end of the Square from the Old Town and plan to walk it both to the museum on the other end and back and enjoy the historic buildings on both sides. We have previously seen the square only at night passing by but now in the day we finally understand how long it is, about one kilometer, so onwards it is.
The buildings are quite beautiful and are in our opinion from the 19th and early 20th century when Wenceslas Square was “upgraded”. It is the usual place for large gatherings both for or against issues and governments.
We continue enjoying the great buildings on both sides as we slowly make our way towards the National Museum.
We are halfway but even here it still feels that the museum is far away even though we have certainly walked a long distance already. The views however are quite beautiful along the square/boulevard.
But we continue on and after another quarter hour we arrive at the museum which consists of two sections. The modern one is, well, modern but of course we plan to enter using the main older building.
Which is quite magnificent from up close. We spend some time enjoying the views of the square we walked through before entering the building and spending a few hours visiting the expansive National Museum.
One more thing we want to try on Wenceslas Square, after exiting the National Museum, is the Trdelník. We are curious about it since we saw it on our first day and we want to try this variant of kürtőskalács and today is the last chance.
There are quite a few choices and we choose one with icecream, it is quite good and afterwards it is time to return to the hotel to leave for the airport.
