The Golden Lane and lunch

From St George basilica we have to find the next and last attraction included in our ticket, the Golden Lane. Luckily we have our GPS as there aren’t many signs but finally we find the entrance and soon we are in. It is a relative short lane and we notice that you can climb up on top of a few houses so why not, we say?

On top there are multiple exhibits, some related to torture and some to armor and weaponry. It doesn’t take long to understand that the weaponry and armor is actually modern, done by contemporary artisans which can be bought if so desired.

We decide to treat it as an exhibit and explore the full corridor which goes over all the houses on Golden Lane. We expect that at the end there is a stair going down but no, you have to return the way you came as the exit is closed, a bit annoying really.

Back down we walk the full length of the Golden Lane, it is relatively short but it has many exhibit rooms along the way.

Some of the rooms are renovated and furnished to look traditional housing while others commemorate specific people or business that lived or existed there.

At the end there is one more tower that can be visited, Daliborka, a former prison tower which has a small torture exhibit.

From here we start getting some great views of Prague and Petrin Hill, the castle is a great vantage point as you would expect.

Exiting the castle we continue through the Castle Gardens below, passing the castle from below. At this point we are starting to look for a late lunch/early dinner place and settle on a nearby restaurant that can arguably be reached via the Gardens, as long as they are open also on the other side.

Throughout the gardens there are some great views all around us and we stop quite a few times to enjoy the views and also to hide from the afternoon sun.

At the end is the presidential palace or at least that is what we assume it is. It is guarded by soldiers and police, not an inordinate amount just enough to give it an official look.

As we exit the garden the restaurant, Kuchyn, is right there. There are many groups in front but to our surprise most just drink beer outside but inside, where it is cool, there is no one. We order some traditional Czech food and beer and then it is time to wait for the food.

The service actually is quite fast and the food is really good. We enjoy the food, the drinks and of course the opportunity to rest a bit before starting our descent via Nerudova street towards the Vltava River.
