Travel from Bucharest is relatively uneventful and soon we arrive in Prague. Entrance in the country is relatively easy but we get distracted by our first beer advertisement, as a cute animal is moving through the scene carrying a pint of beer. We take an Uber to the hotel which is in the downtown area and then it is time for the lengthy check in. At least we also exchange some money so we have the following days. Our room is a suite, we splurged a bit here because it is supposed to be a historic one.
And it is, we feel like nobleman from a different epoch, enjoying the painting on the ceiling and the more modern amenities throughout.
In fact while only one of the frescoes is painted the other ones are quite interesting also and you can see they have been restored recently. According to the website the room is protected by the government so we feel honored to be able to stay in it.
After a good night sleep it is time for breakfast. The hotel is offering quite a hearthy breakfast and we take advantage of it to the full extent as we have a long day planned.
Even though from the street it looks quite small the hotel the area occupied by it is quite sizable. It extends through multiple buildings, has a bar with a lounge and an interior garden.
And then it is time to leave the hotel to explore, we have a full day planned but that doesn’t stop us to take photos with the medieval building we stay in before we leave.
The first attraction we visit is the mechanical Kafka head. At the hour there is a show but when we arrive we are between two shows so we decide not the wait and to continue exploring.
We then take the Narodni street towards the Vltava river. The street is full of “palaces”, buildings that are extensively decorated and look suitably impressive.
There are a few modern buildings in the mix but even those have something to set them apart like the Garden House, inspired by Bosco Verticale in Milan in our imagination.
The details on the houses are quite special and we stop many times just to look at them, very beautiful.
The street ends in two highlights, the building of the Czech Academy of Sciences and the National Theater. Both are suitably impressive and we are suitably impressed.
Then it is time to cross the Vltava towards Petrin hill that is beckoning in the distance. We stop multiple times to take photos and also descend on Shooter’s Island to look for birds and nutrias which based on our research have established themselves here.
We see a few common birds but more importantly to us we also see a few nutrias. In fact a lot of them, they are quite cute as they swim around, fighting each other from time to time. And then it is time to return to the bridge for the short walk to Petrin Hill our next destination.
