Santa Maria del Carmine and around

Leaving Pinacoteca di Brera we start exploring the leafy neighborhood making our way to Santa Maria del Carmine one of the churches we want to visit. The buildings next to the Pinacoteca are beautiful and we walk slowly so we can enjoy all the detail. We also take our time browsing the various shops and stands along the way but there isn’t anything exciting or cheap enough to buy.

Soon the sun is getting to us so we decide to search for a gelateria that is open. We choose one from Google Maps and then make our way through the upscale streets towards it.

The gelateria we have chosen has an interesting mix of gelato and champagne. For today we restrict ourselves to gelato and it is quite welcome in the heat of the day.

The goal in tis area is Santa Maria de Carmine built in the 15th century for the Carmelites. We pass it multiple times and it is quite impressive from the front. Unfortunately there is a mass inside every time we pass it so we cannot visit it in peace.

The mass is an interesting one because it is in English to a group from Asia but we spend only limited time inside trying not to disturb them. The architecture looks interesting enough we just don’t have access to most of the church every time we visit it, even when it is supposed to be open. Luckily Basilica of San Simpliciano, the next stop, doesn’t have this issue and we can visit it in peace.
