Starting on our relocation from Paphos to Larnaca we stop first in Yeroskipou to see the historical church and walk the downtown area. Finding a parking place is a problem initially and we drive twice through the one way streets before finally finding a large parking lot right next to the church…go figure.
The historical church is right nearby and we walk around it before entering. It is a 9th century Byzantine church with five domes and a barrel vaulted basilica making it one of only two such churches on the whole island and a significant example of Byzantine architecture. We enter however the inside area is not as impressive and there is a big and loud tour group so we soon exit and continue exploring the downtown area.
The area is typical of a Cypriot town with some beautiful historic houses sprinkled between more modern homes.
In our exploration we find a sculpture park nearby, it seems that each sculpture was done by a different sculptor from a different country. And some are quite interesting and we enjoy our walk through the park before turning around and searching for an alternate route back to the car.
This leads us past a few puddles which are quite busy with sparrows bathing and swallows gathering mud for their nests further away.
Returning we pass by a few “sleeping policemen” on foot, it is much nicer this way versus via car when jumping over them is bone rattling. There are also a few abandoned homes along the way, we always like to explore them from afar this time though.
There is one more stop on the adventure lab tour that we are following at a location that again is used for weddings. We know that from the fact that there are a few wedding photographers preparing for photo shoots and even a bride dressed up looking for the perfect spot. And then it is time to move on east, always east at least today.
