The second activity we booked today is different than usual. It is close to the hotel in Reid Park and it is a course that teaches you how to identify birds. It is more for beginners and we are not sure how many people will attend and the answer is surprisingly, no one. That is except us and the two instructors. So we have their full attention on us and it is an interactive activity with many questions, what did we get ourselves into?

In fact more people should have joined however unfortunately with the rains some are stuck and some assume that we will get rained on, which doesn’t happen actually. The activity is focused a lot on how to determine the bird based on shape and behavior and not so much on color and it is fun in the end especially as one of us becomes the teachers pet fast given her sharp eyes and great behavioral tracking and categorization ability. We also enjoy the many, common, birds in the area that are drying and playing around post rain in the park.

It is a short activity and this is great as we are quite hungry. We drive around near the hotel for some time looking for something open and find a Mexican restaurant. After ordering we wait outside and are surprised at the number of seemingly homeless people entering the restaurant, maybe they are using the facilities? At least they don’t bother us and as soon we receive our takeout we are on our way to the hotel to eat from the bounty.

We spend the evening relaxing on the hotel grounds and attending a few activities in the central conference areas. We get some swag and in general explore the different exhibits before retiring to our room. Tomorrow we have a long full day trip planned and then we have to return home so it is time to pack in preparation and then we go to sleep.
