We have a couple stops planned in Howenveep National Monument and the first one is the Painted Hand Pueblo. It is a short drive from the main road to the parking lot with the Tower easily seen in the distance.
It looks very impressive so we decide to hike to it and seeing it from close up we do not regret it – it is really special and there aren’t that many towers preserved from the Anasazi times. On the trail there are also two more pueblos to see – they are not that impressive but still add to the sense of how populated this area was.
And of course we see the painted hand pictographs. They are not as impressive as others that we have seen but still interesting especially as they are done in various colors.
