Short visit of the Flaming Gorge

What we intend to do, this afternoon, is drive through the mountains to the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area and Wyoming to see the lake and also do some hiking. First is Wyoming, we want to find a few caches there before returning to the Flaming Gorge NRA.

While we get to the gorge there isn’t that much time left to hike so we just go to the overlooks to get some pictures before starting to return towards Vernal.

On the road we have to be careful to avoid the deer who are everywhere and don’t really care about cars it seems or about anything else.

And they also look cute on the side of the road, but only there :). They are a menace on the street and a danger for any cars that dare to pass that way.

Before descending from the mountains we stop at a trailhead for a short walk in the snow, who can resist snow if you don’t see it for years? It is the start of a long hike but we do only a short part until the darkness falls, finding a few night caches. The cold is really biting already so we almost run back to the car and then descend into warmer Vernal.

It is Thanksgiving today and nothing is open so we are lucky that we have some provisions to survive the evening. After that we go to sleep looking forward to visiting the dinosaur quarry tomorrow.
