Deep diving into Vieux Lyon with relatives

With our relative here we are at full complement to explore the Vieux Lyon and Fourvieve today with the afternoon plan being to explore the Cinema and Miniature Museum. But first we have to find breakfast, we just have to find a bakery we hope to also find something to eat.

We find one relatively close with lots of options but not so many breakfast wise. For breakfast it is baguette and jam, coffee and some juice. And that’s all, quite disappointing. At least we have lots of pigeons trying to get some crumbs and we enjoy watching them walking around brazenly eating what they can.

As it is relatively early there aren’t many people around and it seems we have the Old Town to ourselves. While we walked here yesterday our relative didn’t so we visit the same sites again but at a slower pace as we have more time today.

In the Place of Change we take a closer look at the Temple of Change, basically a church, and at the Maison Thomassin, a 12th century house, that we passed yesterday at fast speed.

Most stores are not open yet so we mostly look at them from the outside especially the bakeries, there were a few here that were better equipped for breakfast than the one we actually chose earlier.

We pass again through the long traboule taking our time and finding a few more interesting nooks to explore before exiting again on the other side of the traboule.

Next is the cathedral which is open today so we enter in after taking in the views of Fourvieve our next goal. It is also quite popular after the Vieux City where we didn’t see many people, here there are lots and lots waiting in front for something, not sure what.

Inside it is impressive in size but it doesn’t have as many decorations as we expected. It was built between the 12th and 15th century so maybe it was decorated before the more ostentatious periods later.

A major attraction here is the astronomical clock that we cannot solve even though there is a description how to read it nearby. At least we understand what the pipe organ does but of course we couldn’t play it either.

We then go up to Fourvieve with the funicular, described in another post, and then return via a different one. Tired after our visit to Fourvieve we decide to recuperate a bit with a Praline tart, another specialty of Lyon but not an especially good one in our opinion.

Then we visit the Film and Miniature Museum, described also separately, and when we return to Vieux Lyon it is quite busy, much more like what you would expect in a major city.

We spend a couple hours recuperating at the hotel and around 7PM we exit again trying to find a place to eat dinner. However place after place is full so we are really happy when we find a restaurant with open tables after about an hour. We order again some specialties, different ones for us while our relative decides to try something similar to what we ate the previous day.

For a spur of the moment place the food is good enough and now filled it is time to return back to the hotel.

On the way back we pass again through the Place des Terreaux which looks quite beautiful at night also and is full of people enjoying the cooler temperatures. But we are really tired and we will return here again tomorrow so we return to the hotel for a well earned rest.
