The last stop in Sun Moon Lake and during our visit in Taiwan is the famous frogs statue. There is parking right at the trail start, uhm trail? We hoped we can just stop and view the statue but there is an actual trail starting here going for a supposedly short distance to the frug statue.

The trail starts easily following the street for a short while. We are afraid that it will rain but we proceed nevertheless as we really want to see the statue.

But the flat area ends soon and then it is time to go down via stairs, again. We are surprised at this as we know that this is a bike path and how are bicycles navigating the stairs? And then we notice the bike rail on the side, the are actually pushed up and down on that rail as we soon notice.

Now we are close to the water level and can see that the lake is quite low even with our eyes but we need the frogs to confirm it. There are also a few birds here but mostly common egrets that we have already seen before.

And the frogs say: “Water level is low”. You can guess at the water by the number of frogs you see and we can see all of them which tells us that the area is in a drought, or at least the lake is. There are quite a few people here as it is a famous spot so after taking a few photos we decide to explore the trail a bit more.

It is a nice trail built for bikes mostly but soon we have to return to the car as it starts to rain again and now it is getting late and we still have to drive to Taipei a few hours away.

We take one more look at the lake with the pagoda we climbed to in the distance and the clouds rolling in and then it is off towards Taipei.

Initially we wanted to stop also at Wenwu Temple but given limited time we decide to just pass next to the temple and see what can be seen from the car.

It is really not a lot that cqn be seen but just enough to give us an idea of this relatively famous temple. And then we drive on the crowded highways towards Taipei. There are lots of blocked highways due to weekend traffic returning to the major cities and this increases our driving time to our hotel by about one hour but we make it in the end to the last hotel of our trip where we will spend the night close to the airport for tomorrow’s flight.
