From the Confucius Temple we explore the many side streets and the pedestrian area of Tainan downtown trying to find our way towards the Magistrate Residence. It is a bit confusing when there are no street names or you cannot read them but using Google Maps we make a reasonable straight line or so we think.

On the way however we find a small temple that seems to be visitable so why not, let’s check out the less explored area of downtown.

It is a nice small temple and an interesting counterpoint to the less flashy Confucian Temple we just visited. And it is not that popular, we do not see anyone else around during our visit.

Now it is time to get a break and we stop at a small coffee shop to get some iced coffee for some additional energy as we still have some ways to go to the Magistrate Residence.

And then we pass next to another temple, this one, while hidden, being larger and more ornate than the previous one.

It is now time to explore even though this temple has more areas that are private or at least locked down.

For certain it has some of the most interesting carvings, they are quite colorful representing gods and scenes that we try to understand and fail most of the time.

What we like most are the tiger and crane carvings they are quite real looking. It seems this carver has seen an actual tiger or had quite a good imagination.

The ceiling is also more elaborate and we enjoy the exploration but now it is time to move on as we follow our GPS towards the Magistrate Residence.

We keep an eye out for interesting sights on the streets, like a laundromat out in the open and the birds kept in cages for sale right in the street.

And then we arrive at the train crossing after which we will arrive at the Residence. And of course that is when a train decides to pass, quite a long train in fact. So we wait in the heat for it to pass before finally arriving at the last attraction during this exploration, the Magistrate Residence.
