Couple nights at a luxury hotel in Tainan

After spending the afternoon in Kaohsiung it is time to travel to Tainan where we plan to spend two nights at a downtown hotel. It was quite difficult to find a hotel with parking which is not that surprising given how densely populated the area is. Even driving into town takes forever with us keeping the eyes peeled on the stoplights and GPS to ensure we arrive at the correct location. Even finding the parking is difficult as it is a one way street and we overshoot the first time forcing us to make one more circle before entering the underground garage.

At least there is a parking space in the garage but parking is a complicated affair as we need to park very precisely on a car lift. If the need arises they plan to raise the car and park another car beneath, we really hope that is not the case. Checking in is easy enough and soon we are in our room that this time has extensive coffee making capabilities, something we always like.

The room itself is quite nice with a bed and lounge chair and even a desk. The bathroom has a bathtub and a weird shower that we are happy we won’t have to use.

It is also one of those modern rooms here where there is a window and you can see directly into the bath from the bedroom. At least the toilet is separate.

We are quite hungry when we arrive and there are two restaurants in the hotel so we are sure we can find something to eat. We are almost proven incorrect, the first one is closed and we are sent to the second one. And when we arrive there we are moved around from table to table but they take our order and we get our food, phew. The reason for all these changes is that there is a conference in the hotel which reserved a lot of space. The food itself is surprisingly good given that we are the only people seemingly that are eating in.

During the day we enjoy the great views from our window and watch military planes doing flybys almost every other ten minutes. It is either training or some type of provocation from the mainland, who knows? But it is scary a bit.

We decide to test the breakfast one day and it is quite impressive. Lots of food and many different stations. It feels like it covers breakfast, lunch and dinner and we are quite full when we finish it. At least it gives us the energy to explore the city without further distractions.

In the evening of the only full day here we understand what the conference that inconvenienced us is about. It is a conference about carving fruit with the best results being shown in the hotel lobby. And they are impressive and we forgive them for almost leaving us hungry the previous night. And then after our two nights here it is time to continue north and into the mountains for a couple cooler days, hopefully.
