We spend the morning exploring the Green Grassland and Flycatcher Creek birdwatching, hiking, geocaching and sightseeing. It was also an overcast day which was great for hiking especially in the open and it didn’t even rain. But now it is time to return to the harbor to wait for the ferry. We arrive a bit early even though we stop to take a photo of fried flying fish on the way but this is good as we still want to finish our provisions before the crossing.
There aren’t many parking spaces near the harbor so we drive a bit further until we find a spot to park. From here we can see the harbor and if the ferry is coming in so we relax and eat a few snack while enjoying the views of the lighthouse.
It is a nice spot to rest and we even see a bird crossing the road that looks like a rail but we cannot catch another glimpse of it unfortunately. And then it is getting quite close to the time we have to leave so it is time to return to the harbor.
We return the car with no issues and then walk to the ferry waiting area. Our ferry is listed, which is great so it is time to wait half an hour.
What we didn’t expect is the sea of people waiting. There are if we understand correctly four ferries coming in, two towards Houbihu and two towards Taitung and that is a lot of people. And all of them are hiding under the tin roof as the sun has come out and it is quite hot outside. There are lines forming and with a bit of luck we find the correct one and wait till our ferry finally comes in.
The line then moves outside where we again have to wait but now in the hot sun. They should have waited a bit more to move the line in our opinion, until the boarding begins. Luckily when it starts it is fast and soon we are on the air conditioned boat.
We are quite scared about the passage after the vomit ship when we were inbound but this time the ride is really smooth and there is no repeat of the inbound trip. We are quite happy and relieved when we arrive in port and then find to find our car where we left it, in a possible illegal parking spot. Well it was legal, there are lots more cars around it now. It is a short drive to the hotel now, it is time to prepare for our beach day tomorrow after dinner.
