Today was a full day and it is not done yet. After circumnavigating the island, hiking, snorkeling, birdwatching and sightseeing it is time to taste test. In Iranmeylek, the larger town where we bough provisions earlier, there is a night market and that is what we want to visit. If we can only find a parking space, we had no luck during the day. But now there is a small fire ongoing that blows smoke over the highways and there are no cars parked there so we take advantage of this opportunity.

We then walk about 10 minutes into town where the night market is. We already saw it when passing with the car while looking for a parking spot and thought that this cannot be all, there must be something hidden in the back. But this is it about four kiosks selling food with the other ones selling drinks or other knick-knacks.

So we decide to try all kiosks, why not? And start with the most difficult one that promises fried flying fish. Ordering is via a form in Chinese but with Google Translate we make it while watching how a dog is seemingly playing or attacking a child.

We buy a couple more items from the other kiosks and with our hands full we try to find a spot to eat all the food. All the chairs are taken so we make our way to the shore, buy some drinks from the supermarket and then sit down on the seawall to eat. Of course instantly we get a guardian who patiently waits for any crumbs to fall so he can snatch it up. An advantage of our location is that we have a nice views of Tatara boats on the shore that we otherwise haven’t seen except in passing.

We return to the last kiosk that we haven’t tried and order takeout, it is too complicated to get something to drink and also to find a place to seat. And now it is time to return to our accomodation but on the way we want to see if we can encounter a Lanyu Scops Owl, the rare subspecies that exists only on this island.

We stop a few times but already at our second stop we hear the owl in the distance and soon it comes to investigate us. It is quite small and cute and we enjoy the nice sights of one of the major target birds on the island. Returning to our accomodation we find that the parking spot is completely empty, nice! Previously there was another car and they even moved our car with their key so they can access it so at least this way it should be in a safe position.

We know go to the covered terrace and do our best to prepare the takeout food. Unexpectedly it is quite hot, spicy-hot not warm-hot but still reasonably enough that we can finish it. And it has quite a fun mix of eggs, tofu, noodles and who knows what. After this we fall into the bed and go to sleep, we are awake since 5AM and now it is almost 10PM and we explored the island almost the whole day so we are quite tired.
