A relaxing stop at Jingcheng Lake

Continuing from the Caota Sand Dunes it is time for our last stop on the coast for today at Jingcheng Lake. We first plan to see the Gangnan Scenic Area however it is not clear if we can park and if we park if we have to pay so we move on to Jingcheng via one lane roads. Stressful one lane roads as we are not sure if we can pass and there is also oncoming traffic but we make it to the first marshlands and stop for a look.

In fact we are not sure if these are marshlands. They might be rice paddies or fallow rice fields but either way they are popular with birds, unfortunately all of them quite common ones.

And then we get to the main lake and there are a couple bird hides where we stop to see what is visible. The views are nice however from a bird perspective there is nothing impressive, oh wait what is that? There is a tern between all the shorebirds, a Whiskered Tern, at least something new for us.

As we look for birds we notice some cars approaching. As they get closer we notice they are not cars but some double electric bikes, they are quite popular here. And they prove to us that we can pass next to some fallen branches on the road, luckily soon we are back to the main one lane road which is more maintained.

The road now follows the seawall to the main parking area with some restrooms and stairs to access the seawall. So up the seawall we go to see what can be observed from high up. And there are some nice views of the floodplains with the highway we were driving on far in the distance.

However the more impressive views are of the wild coastline and the fishing boat struggling in the ocean to catch some fish. Or at least that is what we assume they are doing, they might be some patrol boat for all we know.

And then before leaving we use the restroom, as usual in Taiwan there are a lot more than we expected with an assortment of Western and Eastern style toilets. With a bias towards Eastern ones of course. Afterwards we drive towards Taichung where we will sleep for the night, with one more stop planned on the way.
