Southeast Brook Falls a nice and short stop

It is an hour drive to the Tablelands area so we decide to stop on the way at Southeast Brook Falls which according to our map and info is a short trail. As a bonus the parking lot is empty and has a very usable toilet and even trashcans.

The trail is quite scenic but it goes down and down and we know of course that we have to come up when we are returning. Still it is a short trail so no real worries with the descent as we enjoy the smells and sounds of the forest.

It seems that other people had the same idea as this is a forest bathing trail with stations along the way describing what we should do to commune with nature. We try a few of them seriously, some less seriously, but it is a nice idea really.

We do our own forest bathing along the way admiring boulders and skipping over patches of mud while longing for boardwalks that start just when the terrain is dry again.

And then we arrive at the waterfall, it is a nice one but not that visible as the view from the overlook is partially blocked by a few trees. Still it is rare to have a waterfall just for yourself so we enjoy the moment before noticing that the trail is continuing up.

So up we go to another viewpoint, this one on top of the waterfall. We cannot see the waterfall but we get the impression it is larger than we thought, it must be a step waterfall. And then it is time to return, enjoying the moss-covered forest floor, to our car for the rest of the drive towards the Tablelands.
