In the evening we return back to Garachico where earlier we were not able to find any parking space in the large parking. But now there are quite a few so even though it is late we decide to stop for about an hour as we have to return back to the AirBnB by 10PM when they supposedly close the gates.
We start exploring the narrow streets, everything is closed but the streets themselves are quite scenic and we enjoy the quiet exploration, there are few tourists left so late in the day.
Slowly we are making our way towards the central plaza to see if the church is open as our relative is really interested in churches. We get turned around a few times as the streets can be quite misleading but slowly we make our way towards the plaza.
We finally reach the Plaza de la Libertad, the central square, which is anchored by the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles – Church of our Lady of the Angels?! And then we are continuing towards Castillo de San Miguel that was protecting the harbor and the city in the olden days.
On the way we stop at Parque de la Puerta de Tierra an interesting site. In fact Garachico was the major harbor on Tenerife before a volcanic eruption buried the harbor and half of the town. And the park is basically the place where the harbor was and you can still see the anchors from the ships that were destroyed and the old gate that previously was on the water but now is in the middle of the town.
And then we continue through the town towards the seashore and the small Castillo while enjoying the narrow beautiful streets.
The Castillo is closed, even with some type of barricade. So we take photos from afara and then return to the car via the seashore looking for interesting seabirds. We see none but still it is a nice walk and then a drive via narrow and winding roads back to our AirBnB where we arrive at 9:50PM. And then of course there is no curfew time really it is just written in the notes but the door remains open. Either way we are quite tired and soon fall asleep, tomorrow is a relocation day to the north of the island.
